We call ourselves Muslim because our members are mainly Muslim faith based. However, they include people from various backgrounds, and serve communities in both Muslim and non Muslim countries, as diverse as from South Africa, right through to Indonesia and Sudan.

The drivers behind our mission and goals are our Islamic values. It generally means that some of the practices usually associated with mainstream non Muslim charities may differ. For example, our members rely on fundraising on the principle of zakat-which means thrive, to be wholesome, to purify. Giving up a portion of one's wealth in excess of what is needed for sustenance and everyday living, is to purify or legalise it, so that the remainder may lawfully be used by the alms giver. This is one of the most essential tenets of Islam, and is an obligation of every Muslim.

Islam also encourages voluntary donations, which are generally known as sadaqah. These can be of any amount and can be given at any time.

Our members are also expected to be accountable and visible, not just because it is good practice, but also once again, it is an obligation required in Islam for those administering charitable works. It is features such as these that give our organisation the name Muslim. We promote a message of diversity, plurality and positivity.
