MCF is proud to be one of the many NGOs, voluntary and community sector organisations, trade unions, and businesses that have signed an open letter to the Prime Minister – marking 100 days before the government’s deadline to deliver a new climate plan.

In the letter, we call on the Prime Minister to develop a bold and fair strategy that drives the transition to a Net Zero future while ensuring all communities across the UK benefit from the change.

You can read the full letter here.

It is essential that the voices and needs of all communities across the UK are reflected in this plan to ensure no one is left behind. This includes Muslim communities, who are disproportionately impacted by climate-related inequalities – such as heatwaves, air pollution, inadequate housing, limited access to green spaces, food insecurity, and fuel poverty, to name a few.

British Muslim-led charities are united in their deep concern about the climate crisis. According to our 2024 report, Climate Action within British Muslim-led Charities, 77% of organisations surveyed have already engaged in environmental activities, initiatives, or projects, demonstrating a clear and growing commitment to sustainability. Environmental projects include, upcycling workshops, creating new green spaces and art-based climate education.

As communities rooted in stewardship, justice, and care for creation, we are already taking meaningful action in response to the climate emergency. We now ask you to ensure that our voices and efforts are recognised and supported in the UK’s climate plans moving forward: Tell Starmer: step up for a Big Climate Plan now | Friends of the Earth
