On the 27th June, MCF, hosted by Lord Sheikh, held an Eid Reception, coupled with the launch of the Muslim charitable sector’s and MCF’s first journal ‘The Forum’. On the day of the event, we also hosted our trustee’s meeting and MCF’s Annual General Meeting at the same venue.
We were so honoured to publicly share the hard work that has gone into developing the first issue of The Forum, with contributions from a wide range of professionals on a number of different topics and issues relating to the Muslim charity sector. We hope The Forum does justice to its aims of giving an insight into the Muslim Charity sector here in Britain and offering a foundation for developing further discourse. Contributors to The Forum include representatives of the Charity Commission, the Fundraising Regulator, academia and the former International Development Secretary and our Patron, Rt. Hon Andrew Mitchell MP. You can read and download the journal for free by clicking here.
Our Eid reception and journal launch boasted guests from across the charity, academic and political sectors and was filled with engaging speeches and plenty of time for networking. The evening was a screenshot of what our sector has the potential to be, with intelligent and dedicated individuals and organisations having the opportunity to share ideas, expertise and discuss opportunities for working together, whilst also having material about the sector to reflect upon and discuss.
We had speeches from Lord Sheikh, Rushanara Ali MP, Sarah Adamczyk, Karl Wilding and Remy Mohamed. The points raised varied, from the necessity to maintain a cross-party commitment to International Aid, to the importance of remembering the Grenfell Disaster and working to ensure something of its sort never happens again, to the reality of counter-terrorism policy and its impact on Muslim charities.
