Get your copy of our practical guide for Muslim donors ‘Give Smart Give Safe’. Available to you this Ramadan and all year round, this guide can help you understand why putting in the effort to research, plan and manage your donations can lead to ihsaan (excellence) in your charitable giving of Zakat and Sadaqah.

‘Verily, Allah has prescribed excellence in all things.’ (Sahih Muslim)

As Muslims, we know the importance that giving to charity holds in our faith. As a Hadith of the Prophet (SAW) says: “The best charity is the one which is given in Ramadan.” [Tirmidhi] but charitable giving can be given at any point in the year.

Whilst giving in faith is commendable and every action is rewarded according to intention, we are commanded to ensure that we take care and protection with all that we do, including when we donate. Just as the Prophet (SAW) explained in the famous hadith:

Anas ibn Malik reported: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, should I tie my camel and trust in Allah, or should I leave her untied and trust in Allah?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Tie her and trust in Allah.”(al-Tirmidhi)

Giving Zakat is a fard and pillar of faith whilst additional and voluntary giving (sadaqah) is a highly recommended Sunnah. The Prophet (SAW) was the most generous of all the people and he used to become more generous in Ramadan. As a community, we give an extraordinary amount during the blessed month – around £38 per second (Charity Commission) and according to Islamic Relief, British Muslims raised an incredible £150 million for charity during Ramadan in 2020.

When you give this Ramadan, we want to ensure you are giving in a smart and safe manner, ensuring that your donation gets to its recipient securely and gets utilised in the most effective way possible. By following this guide, you can better ensure your donation is making a real difference
