The Global Majority Fund was launched by Comic Relief in early 2021.

In February 2021, MCF were selected as Intermediary Partner to distribute funds on behalf of Comic Relief, National Emergencies Trust (NET)The Clothworkers Foundation and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

The Global Majority Fund is for organisations who work with communities facing racial inequality within the UK.

In March 2021, MCF opened the funding application process for small-medium organisations to apply for project or core costs for up to £10,000.

The fund was for:

Organisations that are led by individuals from and/or focused on communities experiencing racial inequality and the emergency needs within these communities within the UK

AND

Organisations working under one or more of the following themes:

  • Health including mental health
  • Vulnerable people
  • Food poverty
  • Domestic abuse
  • Education
  • Poverty
  • Supporting refugee and asylum-seeker communities

The fund closed for applications in April 2021. Over 280 applications were received with a total of ask of £1.8 million. Through strict criteria and shortlisting including with an independent board, 23 organisations around the UK were awarded funds to meet the needs of communities facing racial inequality.
