MCF is deeply alarmed by the arrest of 12 individuals in connection with a planned terror attack at a Muslim event in Suffolk. The event was attended by approximately 15,000 people and had those responsible not been apprehended, the consequences would have been catastrophic.

This incident did not occur in isolation. The recent stabbing of 5 Muslims in Edinburgh, alongside other acts of anti-Muslim terror across Britain, reflects a startling pattern, as a result of which Muslim communities are living in fear of further attacks.

This climate has been fuelled by inflammatory rhetoric that continues to go unchecked, whether from elected officials, far-right voices, or sections of the media. The mainstreaming of anti-Muslim hostility has created conditions in which hatred has become ingrained and far-right terrorism has become normalised.

Fadi Itani OBE, CEO of Muslim Charities Forum, said:

“Words are not enough. We call on the incoming Prime Minister to treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves by delivering a comprehensive strategy to tackle anti-Muslim hatred, counter the far-right, and protect communities. Failure to act will only cause this threat to grow, placing more lives at risk.”

MCF urges the government to take robust and proactive measures by developing an action plan to combat far-right terrorism. We also urge charities, mosques, and community organisations to remain vigilant by conducting thorough risk assessments and ensuring appropriate security measures are in place for all public events.
